The highlight of the gymnastics year is the British Championships held in Liverpool at the Echo Arena. After being cancelled for the last two years, it was fantastic to be competing again at the very top level.
The event started on Thursday 24th March with the Disability competition, where Anabelle McAdie and Sienna Swinden took to the floor to represent the Meapa. This was Anabelle’s first experience at such a prestigious event and she performed beautifully to finish 5th on Vault and Bars. Sienna did exceptional work to win a Bronze medal on Bars and Beam along with a 6th place finish on Floor.
Isabelle Priestley then began her competition in the Espoir (12/13 year old) category. Her day did not quite go to plan with a few uncharacteristic mistakes but she showed great resilience to continue and had stylish work to finish in 36th place.
On Saturday, Amelie Attwood and Shannon Baker began their challenge in the Senior competition. This was Amelie’s first opportunity to compete in an arena on a podium and she was calm and composed. She showed great work finishing in 40th place. This was Shannon’s 3rd time at this event, but her 1st time in the Senior category. She showed experience and maturity to place 32nd.
We are extremely proud of all the girls and how they represented the club and themselves so beautifully. We are looking forward to their continued hard work in the gym where they can return next year even stronger!
