Guildford Spectrum hosted the Women’s Artistic Modified Regional Championships on Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd November at Guildford Spectrum with competitors from all across the South East region taking part. 9 Meapa gymnasts were among 215 gymnasts competing across 6 rounds. Our gymnasts, who all train less than 10 hours a week performed to the best of their abilities with style and poise.
The weekend began with Anabelle competing in her first regional competition for The Meapa at Modified Level 5. Anabelle, aged 9 dispayed some beautiful gymnastics having a clean competition and was rewarded with the gold medal all around and an apparatus gold across all age groups on bars.
The Modified Level 3 gymnasts Holly, Erin & Sienna were the next to compete. All 3 girls performed their best gymnastics hitting 12 for 12 routines. Sienna placed 2nd all around in the 11 years age group, with Erin finishing first in 12/13 years age group & Holly first in the 14 years age group. Erin also won gold medals on floor and vault and Holly on bars for the highest apparatus scores across all age groups. With a team of only 3 gymnasts all scores had to count for the team placings and following their clean competition they won the team trophy by 2 ½ marks.
Sunday saw our Modified Level 2 gymnast Jessica, Freya and Jemma competing. All 3 had a good competition competing many new skills. Jessica won the 12/13 year age group, with Freya winning the 14/15 year age group. Jemma competed some new skills but unfortunately a few errors on beam means she narrowly missed out on a top 6 placing. Jessica, who successfully competed her Tsukahara vault for the first time received a bronze medal on this apparatus with a silver on beam and a gold on floor. As a team they also finished a creditable 2nd narrowly missed out on the team title.
