Last weekend, The Meapa Gymnastics Club sent 2 gymnasts to the British Artistic Disability Championships in Leicester. This competition caters for gymnasts of all abilities with both cognitive and physical disabilities and has grown exponentially in recent years.
Representing The Meapa was Sienna Swinden, 11, who was competing for her third year and Anabelle McAdie, 9, making her debut in the U12 competition A category.
Anabelle received many compliments for her stunning floor routine and courageously competed many new skills on each apparatus against some stiff competition. Her graceful performance earned her the title of U12 A British Champion as well as gold on floor, silver on uneven bars and beam and bronze on vault.
In the top level of competition, the open category, Sienna showed increased maturity as she too competed many new skills with poise. Her clean performance was awarded with gold medals on each apparatus and the title of U12 Open British Champion. Gymnasts in the open competition are eligible for selection to the Disability Masters Competition, held within the British Championships at The M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool next year. Sienna is hopeful that her performances will have secured her spaces for multiple apparatus amongst older gymnasts.
