Regional Voluntary Championships 2019

Guildford Spectrum hosted the Women’s Artistic Regional Championships on Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th September at Guildford Spectrum with competitors from all across the South East region taking part. 27 Meapa gymnasts were among 238 gymnasts competing across 8 rounds and all gymnasts performed to a very high standard.

The long weekend began with our Level 5 gymnasts Eloise, Darcy, Sophie (3rd AA), Grace (2nd AA), Sienna (1st AA, 1st bars, 1st floor) & Eva (2nd vault). All gymnasts competed well, and even though we carried a few uncharacteristic mistakes, we still managed 3 AA medals, 4 AA placings, and 3 apparatus placings. We also took the team title and trophy. This was an incredible achievement in the largest category with 64 competing gymnasts.

The Level 6 gymnasts Sofija, Kaylee, Isla & Ella were the next to compete. For these 4 gymnasts it was their first chance to compete at a regional competition. A special mention to Sofija who finished 2nd overall and 3rd on floor. As a team, they narrowly missed out on a placing, but they all performed well and gained valuable experience.

The first day finished on a high with our level 3 gymnasts Izzy, Bailey & Chelsea competing well. In the In age section, Izzy carried a few errors that stopped her progressing to national finals, but she competed some impressive new skills and gained some valuable competition experience. In the out of age category, Bailey won the regional title with Chelsea finishing closely behind taking the silver medal. Bailey also won a bronze medal on beam. As a team they also finished a creditable 2nd.

Sunday started very well with our Level 4 gymnasts. In the In age competition Dakota and Aneta competed against a strong field which saw Dakota finish 3rd securing a place at National Finals in November. Dakota also came 2nd on vault and Aneta collected a bronze medal for her bar routine. In the Out of age competition, Lexi & Katie shared top spot with Skye close behind them in 3rd place. Summer and Megan also competed very well and narrowly missed out on medal positions. In the team competition, the A team came 2nd with the B team narrowly missing out on a medal.

Amy was our sole competitor in level 2 and competed a clean competition finishing 2nd overall and taking a silver medal on beam and a bronze medal on floor.

The competition weekend concluded on a high with the Challenge and FIG competitors Amelie, Poppy, Caitlyn, Chrystal & Shannon. In the youngest Challenge age group Amelie won the Espoir title by a clear margin, Poppy finished 2nd in the junior category with Caitlyn 4th in the Seniors. Amelie also won a gold medal on bars, 2nd on beam and 3rd on vault whilst Poppy came 2nd on vault and 3rd on bars. Chrystal & Shannon competed in the FIG section where Shannon took the title closely followed by Chrystal. Shannon and Chrystal also won 4 apparatus medals each with Shannon taking gold on floor & Vault, silver on bars and bronze on beam whilst Chrystal won a silver medal on vault and beam and bronze on floor and bars.

The Meapa came home with a fantastic haul of 29 medals. 6 Regional Champions and 2 team titles.

What a fabulous weekend – well done to all the gymnasts and coaches.
